What to Wear
What you wear to your photo session will make a big difference in the overall appearance of your finished photos. It ultimately comes down to what you’re comfortable in and what you want to see hanging on your walls, but here are some basic tips.
- ~ Layers add fun dimension to a portrait.
- ~ It’s best to avoid large logos and prints, especially t-shirts with characters on them.
- ~ Jeans are always a good choice.
- ~ Pay attention to details. Chipped fingernail polish, dry skin, and chapped lips do not photograph well
GIRLS
Simple unadorned dresses or outfits always look nice. Hair accessories are okay but should be kept to a minimum to avoid drawing attention away from the face.
BOYS
Boys look great in layers – plain t-shirts underneath with simple button up shirts on top, unbuttoned over baggy jeans. Or even two t-shirts, one long sleeved and one short sleeved.
ADULTS
Long sleeves are the most flattering, even in summer. Darks are more slimming than light colors. Go for clothing that is woven over knit products. If you can’t tell if something is knit or woven, try to stretch it – woven fabrics don’t stretch while knit fabrics stretch easily and aren’t as flattering.
FAMILIES
Outfits should be coordinating and in similar tones, but do not need to be matchy-matchy. Choose two or three complimentary colors and stick to them. Everyone in the photo should be dressed on the same level, either all casual or all dressed up.
Regular jeans, unbuttoned, look better than maternity jeans. Long sleeve button up shirts, and snug t-shirts & tank tops work well. Wearing only loose clothing for a couple of hours before your session will help avoid indents or marks on your skin.
Newborns have it easy as they look cutest in portraits wearing nothing
